Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith

This book by Rob Bell is one of the most challenging books I've come across. I picked it up last week and I couldn't put it down 'till it was done. On several levels it's made me think and rethink my approach to the Bible, not to mention my understanding of the church. I'm not sure that I completely side with Rob Bell on some of the books issues, but its definitely caused me to search out my beliefs and weigh them against my relationship with God.

I really think that Velvet Elvis is a must read...! You need to read it!!! In fact...I'm going to read it again several times to squeeze all its got to offer.

How funny that you have this book Ben Finger highly suggested it to me and I really like Rob Bell (from the times I've heard him speak) do you think being outside America and it's view of the church has aided in your perspective shifts along with the book or in spite of the book?

for my recommendation, i suggest the movie Osama. it is a film about a little girl in Afghanistan during the Taliban government.
I've seen it twice...it is a 'must view.' you can find it in the foreign language section of the movie rentals...

I'm a big fan of the nooma. My mom has them all. I guess she's a big fan too. Rob Bell's pretty cool, if you like preachers that act life surfers all the time.

I like the Nooma videos (although I have to admit it's almost as much for the production value as for the message) and will definitely be looking for this book.

Fawn - Im not to sure I understand you question...
A lot of my perspectives on "the church" have changed considerably in the last 2 years... mainly because I'm starting to see what the church could be.

Rob Bell came to Wheaton while I was there. Killer guy, iconoclast and ridiculously anointed. I don't agree with every kernel of his ear, but overall it's good eatin. I'm hoping every Christian under the sight of my words has read Blue Like Jazz. If not, beat a path to the bookstore, stopping only for pedestrians and/or ice cream.
